Top Cover Keeping your shots on target is what its all about. Whether you require the quick target acquisition of a red dot or the range of a magnified optic, the Gen-3 Dog LegTM scope rail has you covered. Mounted directly over the receiver, the patented Dog LegTM scope rail with integral dust cover provides optimal balance, generous rail space, and protects delicate optics from barrel heat. The ingeniously simple and rugged design provides a rock solid mount for accuracy and a forward hinged, quick release cover with rear cam lock design to preserve the AKs field stripping qualities. The quick release hinge also allows the use of longer scopes without the need for quick detach mounts. Available in various configurations for standard pattern AK, Yugo, C39 and PSL rifles.Hand Guard Designed as part of an integrated system the Gen-3 Hand Guard offers greater levels of functionality, modularity, and durability. The co-planar top rail keeps all accessories such as optics, night vision, or thermal devices properly aligned. For additional functionality the Gen-3 Hand Guard is also M-LOK compatible. The semi-floated hand guard design minimizes barrel disturbance while the ample ventilation holes assure the quickest cooling and minimize weight. Critical AK functionality is retained by allowing the installation of the cleaning rod and bayonet
The dog leg rail is excellent and the build quality is superb on both parts. but the screw hole on the bottom of my KS12 did not line up exactly with the hole in the hand-guards. This isn't a total deal breaker and I got it installed with some fiddling. However the top of the hand-guard fits extremely tightly over the front side bead, which wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that you have to remove it to get the gas plug out to clean the gas system. On a regular AK its not the end of the world since you really only need to do that with corrosive ammo and the pistol is easy to pull out and clean. But with any Saiga pattern shotgun you need to be able to remove the gas plug and scrape the gunk out of the system fairly frequently.
I could put the fitment issues down to just my particular KS12 and the tolerances of most AK pattern guns, but being unable to clean a gun that requires fairly frequent cleaning of its gas system for reliable function without serious disassembly is kinda silly. Especially if you want to secure wires and anything for a weapon-light you have to leave the top free just so you can remove it.
